Car dealer fined for selling cars from the pavement.

A Westcliff car dealer is counting the cost of using the roads near his premises as an extra showroom.

Philip Ashley, a director of CD Cars in London Road, Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex, was fined £900 with a £15 victim surcharge, and £75 costs for leaving six cars advertised for sale along London Road and Hildaville Drive, Westcliff.

Southend Magistrates imposed the penalty on Monday 6th December, after Mr Ashley pleaded guilty by letter.

The cars were parked within 500 metres of each other - contrary to section 3(1)(a) of the Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005.

Southend-on-Sea Borough Council's Executive Councillor for Public Protection and Waste, Councillor Tony Cox, said: "It is vital for people to abide by the law and use parking spaces for their designated purpose, otherwise local residents and shoppers are prevented from parking near their homes and stores.

"We hope the outcome of this case will serve as a warning to prevent others from unfairly and unlawfully clogging up parking spaces."
