Southend-on-Sea Borough Council's Executive Councillor for Public Protection and Waste, Councillor Tony Cox, said: "We are very grateful to our residents for their diligence in dealing with their waste and recycling during this very busy period of the year.

"We have carefully worked out this revised schedule to cover the recent bank holidays and will return to the usual schedule before the end of the month.

"The Council and its waste partner Cory Environmental would like to thank residents for helping us achieve a tremendous 41 per cent recycling rate last year.

"Our challenge is now to increase this to or 60 per cent recycling by 2015. To help our contractors please ensure your sacks or bins are available for collection from 7am on your revised collection day, in a visible location within the boundary of your property."
