Enterprising pupils from Bournemouth Park Primary School are unveiling their marketing skills in promoting Southend as a seaside resort.

Inspired by TV's 'The Apprentice, Year 6 pupils at the school in Bournemouth Park Road, Southend , were challenged to re-brand Southend -on-Sea and design an advertising campaign aimed at a specific target audience.

They are due to present the results of their work, in the Council Chamber of Southend Civic Centre today, Monday 14th February, and also on Friday 18th February from 1.30pm to 3pm

Working in teams, the youngsters picked their own project managers, and then began researching how other resorts marketed themselves.

After designing posters and leaflets they also wrote pitches, supported by Power Point presentations, to explain their choices and to reinforce Southend 's positive aspects as a seaside resort.

Year Six teacher Miss Peta Miles said: "Pupils responded positively, with maturity and enthusiasm.

"We have seen a range of skills emerge, and have been extremely impressed with the team work and independence, which has helped to make this a success.

"The children are very excited about the prospect of presenting their finished products at the Civic Centre."

Southend -on-Sea Borough Council's Executive Councillor for Children and Learning, Councillor Roger Hadley, said: "It will be very exciting to see the innovations the children have come up with, and we are privileged to be able to share their very interesting insights.

"We would also like to congratulate the school for developing this initiative, which has clearly inspired the youngsters and made a great impact on them."
