Join the party on Southend Pier on Saturday 12th March - and enjoy a terrific afternoon of entertainment.
The event, which will run from 1pm till 3pm, highlights tourism in Southend past, present and future
It is part of a national celebration taking place on piers around the country to launch the start of British Tourism Week 2011.
Visitors to Southend Pier will be able to experience a taste of the borough's famous calendar of multi-cultural events throughout the year.
Attractions will include English folk dance performers 'Cockleshell Clog', the South Essex Youth Symphony Orchestra, Polish dancers, jazz singers, jugglers, stunt fights with the nationally acclaimed E15 theatre production group and a fun Pier Quiz.
Refreshments will include Polish sausages and samples of Rossi ice cream. There will also be a display illustrating the work of Southend Pier Museum .
A special Pier admission price of £1 per person will be charged for the 'Party on the Pier' event.
This price is for the whole day and can be used for a walk and ride ticket or return train fare. The usual winter walk price of 52p will also be available.
Southend-on-Sea Borough Council's Deputy Leader, Councillor John Lamb, said: "We are hugely proud of our Pier, which is an international iconic landmark.
"This event on Saturday 12th March is a wonderful opportunity to showcase our Pier and to demonstrate some of the attractions and activities taking place here in Southend throughout the year.
"We are delighted to be joining this national celebration of Piers and tourism, in such a dynamic way."
