Let the train take the Air Festival strain!

Published Wednesday 26th May 10 in Council - news and information releases news

Thousands of people will descend on Southend-on-Sea this Bank Holiday weekend to enjoy the town’s annual Air Festival.

Residents and visitors are reminded that normal parking enforcement, including drop kerb regulations, will be in operation throughout the festival period.

So instead of worrying about where to find a parking space before you settle down to watch the spectacular flying displays why not let the train take the strain?

Train operators c2c and National Express East Anglia will be increasing both frequency and carriage space on trains to the town on Sunday May 30 and Monday May 31.

National Express East Anglia services to Southend Victoria will run every 10 minutes from Shenfield between 10.30am and 1.30pm on both days.

In addition, c2c will be providing extra carriages on services to and from Southend Central.

Councillor Ian Robertson, Southend-on-Sea Borough Council's Executive Councillor for Enterprise , Tourism and Regeneration, urged visitors to the festival to use public transport.

He said: "We want as many people as possible to come to this year's Air Festival and we want to ensure they have both an enjoyable and stress-free time.

"These events always attract huge crowds and parking will be at a premium so I would advise visitors to use public transport to get to and around the town if they possibly can.

"For those people who have no alternative than to travel by car all parking locations will be clearly signposted."
