SBC lands silver award from IIP.

Southend-on-Sea Borough Council has won a prestigious silver award for the way it is continually developing its staff skills.

The award is from Investors in People, a business improvement tool to help to measure good practice and continuous improvement within the organisation.

The Council was awarded the Investors in People core standard in June 2010 but feedback from the assessors at that time was so positive that the decision was taken to go for the silver award within 12 months.

This was achieved in January 2011 - 6 months ahead of target. The Council's Director of Support Services, Sally Holland says: Congratulations to our staff for helping us achieve this national accolade.

"It shows we are committed to improving our performance and upholding our high standards of customer service.

"Plans are already underway to strive for Gold level in 2012, as we continue to focus on improving as an organisation.

""Around 60 staff members were interviewed as part of the award and the final report from Investors in People included many positive comments about the organisation, particularly around how development of staff is used to support and drive the Council's vision of 'creating a better Southend.' "
