The Leader of Southend-on-Sea Borough Council, Nigel Holdcroft, has unveiled his new Cabinet for the forthcoming year.
Honouring his pre-election pledge to reduce the size of the Cabinet by one member he has dismantled the Enterprise , Tourism & Regeneration portfolio.
Deputy Leader Councillor John Lamb has been given responsibility for Enterprise and Regeneration.
Tourism, Marketing and Events become the responsibility of Councillor Derek Jarvis, and will sit alongside his existing Culture portfolio.
Cllr Holdcroft, whose party maintained their overall majority on the Council following the local elections, has also divided the existing Planning and Transport portfolio.
Transport has been added to Councillor Tony Cox’s Public Protection and Waste portfolio, while new Cabinet member Councillor Jonathan Garston gets the new Planning portfolio.
Anna Waite leaves the Cabinet after she was unsuccessful in last week’s elections, with new Cabinet member Councillor Lesley Salter taking over Adult Social Care, Health and Housing.
Councillor Roger Hadley, who previously held the Children & Learning portfolio, has asked to step down to enable him to concentrate on his ward duties.
His responsibilities will now be taken over by Councillor Mark Flewitt, who moves across from the now defunct Planning and Transport portfolio.
Councillor Ian Robertson is also taking a break from Cabinet duties as he recovers from recent health problems.
Praising both men Councillor Holdcroft said: “Ian and Roger have made a massive input to the administration over the last few years and will be greatly missed.
“I look forward to welcoming them back to the Cabinet in the future but they remain central members of the Conservative team with important ongoing responsibilities.”
Of his new Cabinet members he added: “Lesley and Jonathan are senior members of the Conservative Group, having both chaired scrutiny committees.
”I’m delighted they have accepted my offer to join the Cabinet. They are both extremely talented and committed councillors who have particular knowledge and interest in their new portfolios.”
