Southend Crematorium came under the national spotlight during an official visit by members of the Federation of Burial and Cremation Authorities.
The town's recently refurbished Sutton Road crematorium played host to the FBCA's President Gordon Hull and other leading figures from the organisation.
The visit was part of an annual programme undertaken by FBCA officials to inspect and tour crematoria operated by its members.
Southend-on-Sea Borough Council's Executive Councillor for Corporate Support Services, Councillor Andrew Moring, said: "We were very pleased to welcome these leading members of the Federation.
"We are extremely proud of our crematorium and of the sensitive and professional way that staff carry out their work.
"During the visit we demonstrated the results of the £2.1 million refurbishment work at the crematorium.
"We also explained how our crematorium team had won the Mayor's Award at STARS, the Council's annual staff awards event last year, and how our Bereavement Services team had previously won the Team of the Year award."
