Tweed ride a wheel success

Tweed ride proves great success.

An enthusiastic crowd of 50 retro-dressed riders joined the fun vintage-themed cycle ride from Southend Pier.

The event, organised by Cycle Southend, featured some highly authentic tweed clad cyclists, giving the judges a huge headache to pick the best-dressed pedallers.

In the end, these honours went to Sandra and Andy Casey.

The riders were refreshed en route with a cream tea at Metal, in Chalkwell Hall, Chalkwell Park.

Southend-on-Sea Borough Council's Executive Councillor for Public Protection, Waste and Transport, Councillor Tony Cox said: "Bravo to everyone who took part in this terrific event.

"It was a great success and was another opportunity to help us promote the idea that cycling is enjoyable and fun - as well as being excellent exercise and a very sustainable form of transport."
