People can nominate Southend-on-Sea Borough Council staff for staff recognition stars awards

Has someone from Southend-on-Sea Borough Council given you especially excellent service or made a real difference to your life?

If so, now is the time to nominate them for STARS 2011 - the Council's annual staff recognition event.

You can nominate a team or an individual on www.southend.gov.uk/stars or by contacting 01702 534895 for a copy of the leaflet. Nominations close on Wednesday 31st August, and the award categories are as follows:

·         Five awards recognising excellence in achieving the Council's aims: Safe; Clean; Healthy; Prosperous and Excellent

·         Three awards recognising the impact of Council staff: The Partnership Award; Team of the Year and a Leadership Excellence Award

·         Customer Service - Customer Facing Award; Customer Service - Support Award; and Community Cohesion Award

In addition, there will be the annual Mayors Award, chosen from the finalists by the Mayor and the Achievers Awards, recognising individuals and teams who have achieved qualifications and awards during the past year.

"We want to celebrate our unsung heroes and heroines, who go much more than that extra mile to make a difference to the lives of our residents.

"As we continue to work through extremely difficult times, making tough decisions about how we best use our increasingly scarce resources, it is more important than ever that we recognise the hard work and achievements of our staff.

"We are inviting members of the public, councillors and colleagues to nominate those outstanding staff members or teams, giving examples of how the nominee really has helped.

"As usual, this STARS awards scheme, and subsequent presentation ceremony in the autumn, is being entirely funded by sponsorship."

Nominations will be shortlisted by one cross-council panel. This shortlist will then be considered by the Awards Panel, which includes the Worshipful the Mayor of Southend, Council Leader, Councillor Nigel Holdcroft and Chief Executive. Rob Tinlin.

Southend-on-Sea Borough Council Leader, Councillor Nigel Holdcroft said: "The STARS awards are an invaluable way of formally acknowledging the tremendous contribution our staff make to the whole borough.
