2012 Open Weekend family fun event - End of Term

‘End of Term’ is the title of a fabulous family fun day of arts, sports and participation being staged in Chalkwell Park on Saturday 23rd July.
The free event, arranged by international arts organisation Metal and Southend-on-Borough Council, is part of the 2012 Open Weekend programme.
It runs from 11am to 6pm and will include interactive games, art installations, urban games, a dance marquee, street dance, zumba, tea dances, drumming sessions, spoken word performances and much more.
There will also be the opportunity to take part in a range of sporting activities including fencing, cycling, football and sitting volleyball.
All activities are free and there will be plenty of places to buy food and drink, or alternatively, you are welcome to bring a blanket and a picnic.
As part of the 2012 Open Weekend events 'End of Term' is part of the Cultural Olympiad - a four year cultural festival to lead up to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games celebrations.
Local traders will be providing food outlets and arts and sports clubs will hold taster sessions and workshops.
Southend-on-Sea Borough Council's Executive Councillor for Culture and Tourism, Councillor Derek Jarvis, said: "We are delighted to be working in partnership with Metal, whose arts events attract a large and diverse audience.
"End of Term is for all to enjoy - families, young people and older people - and is open to both residents and visitors. This unmissable event engages local community groups and local artists with visiting international artists."
