Progress Road – night time lane closures
Published Monday 12th April 10 in Council - news and information releases news
Night time lane closures will take place this week to enable public utility works in advance of the Progress Road Junction Improvement scheme.
The work is being carried out during the Easter break to reduce disruption to traffic flows and reduce the duration of the works in the long run.
The lane closures will come into force overnight on Tuesday 13th and Wednesday 14th April at the junction of The Fairway and the A127 Southend Arterial Road .
Ducts will be laid across the A127 east of the Fairway between 8pm and 6.30am on both nights, necessitating the closure of a single lane in both directions.
During the same period ducts will be laid across The Fairway close to its junction with the A127.
Traffic exiting The Fairway will be reduced to a single lane but work will not require the exit to be closed.
A new road layout will reduce delays for motorists, boosting businesses on the neighbouring industrial estate and improving accessibility for residents living on The Fairway.
Southend-on-Sea Borough Council apologises to local residents for any inconvenience the works may cause.
However, on Tuesday 13th April only, access to The Fairway will not be possible from either carriageway of the A127 and traffic will have to follow a signed diversionary route via Bellhouse Lane.
The Progress Road scheme, which starts in June, is part of the £25m Better Southend initiative which aims to make Southend a better place to live, work and play.
