Indefatigable fundraisers supporting the Royal Anglian Regiment Benevolent Charity will arrive in Southend at 12:30pm on Sunday 21st August to finish a ten-day sponsored trek.
They will be welcomed to the town and joined on the very last section of their walk, by Deputy Mayor of Southend, Councillor Sally Carr.
Their campaign, All the 4s, stands for: 4 the boys 4 their families 4 the fallen 4 ever, and they are led by Mrs Christine Bonner, the mother of Corporal Darren Bonner who was killed in action in Afghanistan in 2007 while serving with the 1st Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment.
Christine and her fund-raising colleagues are walking 150 miles in ten days through four counties, in aid of the Royal Anglian Benevolent Charity. This organisation gives money to members or former members of the regiment and their dependents, in hardship, need or distress. Last year it distributed a total of £105,000, among more than 250 cases.
Councillor Carr said: "We wish the walkers all the very best on their trip, which is currently under way. I am greatly honoured to be meeting them on behalf of the borough, and joining them for the final stage.
"We hope as many people as possible will come to cheer them along in their endeavours and, add a donation to their collecting bucket if they can."
Exactly at the same time as All the 4s gets under way, the Regiment's 3rd battalion will be undertaking a 150-mile sponsored walk in Cyprus in punishing heat, aiming to complete this in six days.
