Rochford and Southend East MP James Duddridge is the latest person to sponsor a brick in Priory Path for Prittlewell Priory’s innovative restoration appeal.
On Friday 19th August, he will be presented with a ceremonial sponsorship certificate, recognising his contribution.
The appeal is open to everyone who would like to make history in Prittlewell.
Those who take part, sponsor a personal message to be engraved on a brick in the special path being created in Priory Park. This will link the new visitor centre to the restored Prittlewell Priory.
Southend-on-Sea Borough Council's Executive Councillor for Culture and Tourism, Councillor Derek Jarvis said: "We are very grateful indeed that Mr Duddridge has joined this enterprising appeal which really is a wonderful way to be part of the past and the future at Prittlewell Priory.
"The appeal has already attracted a wide range of support. Some people sponsor a brick to welcome a new arrival in the family, to represent a family group, to recall a special occasion, or in memory of a loved one."
Thanks to a Heritage Lottery Fund grant, Prittlewell Priory is being conserved and restored by Southend Museums Service.
Work is due to be completed next spring, and when it re-opens, the Priory will be more accessible to all. Visitors will be able to walk in the footsteps of medieval monks and those of the Victorian Scratton family.
The new dedicated eco-friendly visitor centre will provide space for learning, a gift shop, and modern public conveniences.
If you would like to sponsor a brick, please contact http://www.southendmuseums.co.uk/ or call 01702 434449. Sponsors will be invited to the opening celebrations next spring.
