Hail the achievements of your local sporting heroes and heroines - by nominating them for Southend-on-Sea Sports Awards 2011
These awards, supported by Southend-on-Sea's Legacy 2012, recognise and celebrate the people behind the very best in sport throughout the borough.
They cover those who participate in sport, as well as those who support it in other ways and contribute to its ongoing development.
The nomination categories are:
- Sports Personality of the Year
- Young Sports Personality
- Olympic Hopeful
- Paralympic Hopeful
- Service to Sport
- Young Community Volunteer
- Community Club of the Year
- Coach of the Year
The closing date for nominations is Friday 14th October, and the winners will be announced at a ceremony at the Cliffs Pavilion, Westcliff. on Wednesday 9th November.
Those shortlisted for any of the awards will then be forwarded as a nomination for the Essex Sports Awards.
Southend-on-Sea Borough Council's Executive Councillor for Culture and Tourism, Councillor Derek Jarvis said: "Many people work tirelessly for sport in the borough - by taking part or by creating the opportunities for others to do so - and now is the time to highlight their efforts.
"The awards are an excellent way for someone you may know in the community to receive the widespread recognition they deserve.
"We urge everyone who knows a club leader, trainer, or an enthusiastic young athlete, to consider nominating them straight away!"
