Why not set out on a ‘moving’ journey at the forthcoming spectacular Big Dance Day!
On Sunday 16th October residents and visitors of all ages are invited to try a huge variety of dance styles and cultures at Southend Leisure and Tennis Centre, Garon Park, Southend.
Throughout the day, starting at 10am, there will be an aerobics warm up session followed by classes in Zumba, Bollywood, Flex, Street Dance, Flamenco, Salsa, Bellydancing, African dance and Cheerleading.
Participants can come and try as many classes as they wish for just £3 for the whole day, and no experience is necessary for any of the sessions. Under 14-year-olds must be accompanied by an adult.
The Big Dance Day, launched with great success last year, is part of the town's "Out of the Box" multi-cultural festival, held throughout October to celebrate Southend's diverse communities. It is supported by Southend's Legacy 2012.
In addition to the dance classes, Tai Chi, Pilates and Yoga will also be on offer.
Southend-on-Sea Borough Council's Executive Councillor for Culture and Tourism, Councillor Derek Jarvis said: "This day is a terrific opportunity for people to have fun and keep fit while exploring different dance styles from all over the world.
"It's a great way to experience aspects of another culture without meeting any language barriers.
"Dancing is excellent exercise. Following the Big Dance Day, we hope some people may be inspired to join a particular dance class afterwards to continue developing their skills and fitness."
All residents and visitors are welcome to take part. Book in advance on 01702 613000 or just turn up on the day.
