Chart topping guitarist to perform in Southend-on-Sea

Australian-born guitar star, Craig Ogden is giving a sparkling recital in Southend on Friday 15th May.

From 8pm at the Plaza Centre, Southchurch Road, Southend, Craig will be playing works by Scarlatti, John McCabe, JS Bach and much more.

Craig is one of the UK’s most recorded guitarists, with acclaimed recordings for Virgin/EMI, Chandos, Nimbus, Hyperion, Sony and Classic FM.

His Classic FM albums: ‘The Guitarist’ and ‘Summertime’ both shot straight to No.1 in the UK classical chart in summer 2010 and 2011 respectively, followed by ‘Christmas Time’ in November 2013.

Craig’s latest recording for Classic FM ‘Summer Guitar’ released in June 2014, also raced to the top slot in the classical chart.

He started learning guitar at seven, began studying percussion at the age of 13, and went on to become the youngest instrumentalist to receive a Fellowship Award from the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester.

He is principal lecturer in Guitar at the Royal Northern College of Music, visiting lecturer at London’s Royal College of Music, Associate Artist of the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester and Director of the Dean & Chadlington Summer Music Festival. 

The Council’s Head of Culture, Nick Harris said: “This event gives a terrific opportunity to see an internationally renowned guitarist performing live here in Southend.

“It is part of the Council’s regular concert series which offers residents and visitors the chance to enjoy top quality professional chamber recitals by leading musicians here in Southend at very affordable prices.”
