Parkour equipment will be available to use in Priory Park on Saturday 1st October

Have a thrilling go at parkour - free running - in Priory Park, Southend, on Saturday 1st October.

This is a special opportunity available between 10am and 4.30pm, for people to try for themselves a range of parkour/freerunning equipment used in the Freemove roadshow.

Parkour is an exciting and skilful way of negotiating obstacles with speed and efficiency. Originally developed in France, the discipline teaches participants how to move through their environment by vaulting, rolling, running, climbing and jumping.

Traceurs - parkour practitioners - are trained to do this at the highest level possible.

All ages and levels of ability are welcome to attend this free event

Southend-on-Sea Borough Council's Executive Councillor for Culture and Tourism, Councillor Derek Jarvis said: "Council staff members have been liaising with a local group which is keen to apply for funding to establish a permanent parkour facility in the town.

"This event is an opportunity for anyone interested to come and see the types of equipment that could be installed, and to have a go if they wish.

At around 1pm on Saturday 1st October, day, prominent traceur Jason Matten will give a workshop on the basics of parkour.

Throughout experienced traceurs will be on hand to help people learn how to practice the exhilarating activity safely.
