Catch a breathtaking array of films - most costing no more than £2 each - in Southend-on-Sea’s second film festival.

The festival runs until Monday 3rd May, with fringe events continuing until Wednesday 5th May, and takes place at a range of venues across the town.

It is organised by the White Bus on behalf of Southend-on-Sea Borough Council.

On offer are more than 30 films ranging from original new films, to international movies, well-loved classics, family favourites, special all-nighters, and much much more.

The Council's Group Manager for Tourism and Promotion, Scott Dolling, said: "We are delighted to introduce our second film festival which builds on the huge success of our first one last year. There are films to suit all ages and tastes.

"Among the highlights will be the opening gala premiere, a screening of the powerful film 'Fathers of Girls' starring Ray Winstone and his real life daughter, Lois.

"This is at the Odeon Cinema, Southend, at 7.30pm on Thursday 29th April. Ray Winstone himself, the rest of the cast, the director and crew of the film are due to attend too. Tickets for this very special event cost just £10.

"The cast, crew and screen writer from the emotionally-fuelled drama, Sus, are also due to attend the closing night gala film at the Park Inn Palace Ballroom on Monday 3rd May at 9pm.

"This and the other films at the festival are all only £2, or in some cases, free, so the festival offers affordable and not-to-be-missed entertainment."

On Saturday 1st May, three of the cinema world's most famous vehicles can be seen in Southend Town Centre, along with other star surprises. The Dukes of Hazard General Lee and Starsky & Hutch Ford Gran Torino will be on display in Victoria Circus whilst Herbie will be outside British Home Stores. Also watch out for Captain Jack Sparrow, Mickey Mouse, Elvis and Marilyn Monroe and many other film stars.

To help you remember meeting them, free Southend on Sea Film Festival autograph books are available (whilst stocks last) from the Royals Shopping Centre and The Victoria Shopping Centre.

Festival Director Paul Cotgrove says: "Among the events I am particularly pleased that we have made good friends with the Sopot Film Festival in Poland and we will be screening a wonderful selection of short films specifically chosen by their festival director for us. This year also sees our very first Short Film Competition for local film makers of all ages."
