Art workshops are about to start, for families especially those with children with disabilities

Have-a-go parents and children are invited to join innovative art workshops in Leigh, for all ages, all abilities and disabilities.

These take place over ten sessions during weekends and half term holidays, and they are particularly suited to families with children with disabilities, though all are welcome to attend.

During the series, participants, led by three experienced artists, can try plaster work, photography, collage, puppets, masks and animation, culminating in a final celebration.

Sessions will be held at the St Christopher School, Mountdale Gardens, Leigh, SS9 4AW, on the following dates:

  • Saturday 15th October, 2pm - 4pm
  • Saturday 22nd October, 2pm - 4pm
  • Tuesday 25th October, 10am - 1pm and 2pm - 4pm
  • Saturday 29th October, 2pm - 4pm
  • Saturday 5th November, 2pm - 4pm
  • Saturday 12th November, 2pm - 4pm
  • Saturday 19th November, 2pm - 4pm
  • Saturday 25th November, 2pm - 4pm
  • Saturday 3rd December, 2pm - 4pm.

It costs £3 per family per session, and families can book for all or any of the planned activities.

Southend-on-Sea Borough Council's Executive Councillor for Culture and Tourism, Councillor Derek Jarvis said: "This is a wonderful family-based project, designed for all ages to enjoy working and creating art together.

"There is a relaxed and supportive environment, and the sessions are especially suited to families with children with disabilities, who are encouraged to bring siblings, carers and other family members along with them.

"The project is funded through the Aiming High for Disabled Children scheme, a Government initiative set up as a transformation programme for disabled children's services in England."
