Calling all would-be lifeguards!
A new National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) course, leading to a nationally recognised qualification, takes place at Shoeburyness Leisure Centre from Monday 24th October till Saturday 29th October.
The intensive course running from 8pm till 6pm daily at the Centre in Delaware Road, Shoeburyness, costs £250 per candidate.
Those taking part must be 16, able to swim and be physically fit.
In addition, the individual must be able to help others, work on their own or in a group, and take responsibility for others.
Each person will be individually assessed on their knowledge of resuscitation (CPR), first aid, hazards and risks, role of a Lifeguard, accident prevention, water-based rescue skills, and their fitness levels.
Southend-on-Sea Borough Council's Executive Councillor for Culture and Tourism, Councillor Derek Jarvis said:"This is a very thorough and useful course indeed, leading to the required qualification for those who want to work within the leisure industry.
"It is an excellent opportunity for people to gain some very marketable skills."
