New deal on compostable waste sacks.

Compostable liners for Southend’s food waste bins have just got 75p cheaper.

Rolls of 25 sacks now cost only £1.25 each, and are available from all Southend libraries and many local retailers.

Southend-on-Sea Borough Council's popular food waste bin collection scheme is another successful initiative in the drive to boost the borough's recycling rate.

Most Southend residents canvassed in a recent survey said they recycled their food waste every week.

Also, it doesn't HAVE to cost anything to recycle food waste in Southend. Residents who do not wish to buy the compostable food waste liners, can instead wrap food waste in sheets of newspaper to form 'parcels' , to put in the blue food waste bin.

To find out which retailers sell compostable food waste bin liners, visit: www.southend.gov.uk/foodwaste . Residents can order a blue food waste bin free via this address, or by calling 01702 215006.

Southend-on-Sea Borough Council's Executive Councillor for Public Protection, Waste and Transport, Councillor Tony Cox said: "We hope this price reduction we have negotiated with our recycling and waste contractor, Cory Environmental, will help make it even easier for residents to recycle their food waste, allowing the scheme to reach its full potential.
