Southend-on-Sea’s Visitor Information Centre is the best in the county – and that’s official!
The Centre, based at Southend Pier won the coveted title of Tourist Information Centre of Year at the Essex Tourism Awards.
On Monday 7th November, the Worshipful the Mayor of Southend, Councillor David Norman, will officially present the trophy to Centre staff.
This follows the official announcement made at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Stansted, where the best of Essex Tourism Industry - hosted by Paul Ross - were invited to celebrate their successes.
Competition was tough, with many of Essex's high quality attractions and accommodations battling it out for the top stlots.
Southend-on-Sea Borough Council's Executive Councillor for Culture and Tourism, Councillor Derek Jarvis said: "Southend Visitor Information Centre has deservedly won for the award for going the extra mile.
"It is this ability to provide knowledgeable, friendly advice about events and the best places to visit that helps visitors make the most of their trips.
"The Centre can also provide tickets to local events, as well as offering a range of maps, guides and transport timetables.
"Congratulations to all who have contributed to helping the Visitor Information Centre win this award. It recognises all the hard-work put into the Centre every day, so the staff there should feel very proud.
"They always strive to provide the best service they can, helping visitors get the most out of Southend, and doing their best to ensure they have as enjoyable a time as possible, by offering visitors as many options as they can give.
"Recently they have helped promote the Pier Ghost train ride along with the associated spooky activities - to such an extent that all tickets were swiftly sold out!
"Staff are now gearing up to let people know about the forthcoming arrival of Santa and his helpers at Southend Pier."
