Southend businesses could save on energy and broadband
Published Tuesday, 14th July 2015
Businesses in Southend can find out how they can receive money towards broadband and potentially save money on their energy bills at a business breakfast event this week.
Southend-on-Sea Borough Council’s Economic Development team will be promoting an innovative Business Broadband Connection Voucher Scheme and there will also be the launch of a new business tariff by Southend-on-Sea’s newest energy partnership, Southend Energy at The Hive business Enterprise Centre on Thursday 16th July between 7.30 am and 9.30am.
Under the broadband voucher scheme, sole traders, businesses, charities and social enterprises could receive a government grant of up to £3,000 to cover the costs of superfast broadband installation in your organisation.
Representatives of Southend Energy and OVO Energy – the company Southend-on-Sea Borough Council has partnered with to create Southend Energy – will also be on hand to showcase the business offer to supply electricity to companies in the Borough and beyond.
Cllr Graham Longley, Executive Councillor for Enterprise, Tourism & Economic Development, said: “Southend has an extremely vibrant business community, with even more entrepreneurs capitalising on Southend-on-Sea’s skills base, way of life and connectivity to the capital and making their town their home alongside established major employers within finance, MedTech, aviation and leisure sectors.
“Now more than ever, fast and reliable internet connectivity and control over rising energy costs are key considerations for businesses large and small.”
The event is being held at the recently launched Hive – a pioneering enterprise Centre located above the Beecroft Gallery on Victoria Avenue – so this will also be an excellent opportunity to explore this fantastic new facility which offers flexible business space, meeting rooms and in-house business support to local companies and start-ups.”
