Three new guides were officially launched at The Forum on Monday 13th July 2015 by The Worshipful the Mayor of Southend, Councillor Andrew Moring, and elected representatives from SHIELDS Parliament.

As part of the launch event, SHIELDS Councillors and The Mayor took part in a Discovery Tour of The Forum. On the day a short video was also produced by community website MyTown Southend in which members of SHIELDS talk about their work and the use of libraries.

The “Using Southend Library” guide along with two further information sheets and library maps show visitors how to easily borrow and return items. All three guides were designed and produced by members of SHIELDS Parliament in partnership with Southend Library staff. The aim is to encourage more adults with learning disabilities, Carers and families to visit the library, enjoy the many free resources on offer and borrow or return their library items.

Copies of the new guides can be picked up at any library in the town, which also highlight how community groups can contact library staff to book a free library “Discovery Tour” of The Forum.

Simon Wallace, Communities & Social Inclusion Manager for Southend Libraries said: “We are delighted to be working with SHIELDS Parliament. These new guides are fantastic, and will really help visitors to make use of the wide the range of facilities and services on offer at The Forum Southend and in libraries across the town.”
