Two Southend WCs honoured in Loo of the Year awards.

Southend’s top toilets shone at the annual Loo of the Year awards.

Two sets of the borough's classiest conveniences have just won five star ratings from national officials.

The winning WC's at Marine Parade in City Beach, and at Crowstone Shelter, Chalkwell, were built by Danfo UK Ltd and are run by Southend-on-Sea Borough Council in partnership with Cory Environmental.

Staff members were presented with the highest five-star certificates for the celebrated comfort stations, when they attended a national awards event in Birmingham.

The British Toilet Association's Loo of the Year Awards were launched to encourage the highest possible standards in all types of 'away from home' or public toilets.

To reach their assessments, stringent judges scrutinised every inch of the competing cubicles - including signage, state of repair, sanitary fittings including taps, locks and hooks, walls, and ceilings, all aspects of cleanliness, ventilation, accessibility, and much more.

Southend-on-Sea Borough Council's Executive Councillor for Public Protection, Waste and Transport, Councillor Tony Cox said: "Congratulations to all involved in keeping these conveniences in such excellent condition that they have achieved these top ratings."
