The first Lunchtime Recital of 2012 promoted by Southend-on-Sea Borough Council will take place on Tuesday 24th January at 12.15pm.
The free recital is being staged in the Civic Centre where Southend's very own Rosalind Ventris will present a programme of viola music accompanied by pianist Daniel Tong.
Described as a 'remarkable talent' for her performance of Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante with violinist Tasmin Little, 23-year-old Rosalind is quickly emerging as one of the most promising young artists of her generation.
At the age of just 17 she became the youngest competitor at the 2006 Lionel Tertis International Viola Competition and Workshop, where she received the Gwynne Edwards memorial prize for the most promising British entrant and the EUCO prize.
She made her London concerto debut the following year, performing Hindemith's Viola Concerto "Der Schwanendreher".
Rosalind is currently based in London, giving concerts throughout the UK and abroad.
Forthcoming engagements include performances at the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester, the Slovak Philharmonic in Bratislava, Het Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and the Salzburg Festival in Austria.
Daniel Tong was born in Cornwall and studied in London, where he now lives.
His musical life is spent performing as a soloist and chamber musician across Europe, as well as directing two chamber music festivals and teaching. He recently recorded his first solo CD of works by Schubert.
