New netball sessions are starting shortly at Southend Leisure and Tennis Centre

Why not spring into the New Year, with new netball sessions starting on Tuesday 17th January at Southend Leisure and Tennis Centre.

These are being launched in partnership with England Netball, and offer a gentle re-introduction to the sport for adult females, as well as giving coaching for younger players.

All abilities are invited to the sessions which cover the basics of the game from chest passes to footwork.

Southend-on-Sea Borough Council's Executive Councillor for Culture and Tourism, Councillor Derek Jarvis said: "This is an ideal time to start playing netball as our national team recently won the World Series.

"The sessions will suit those re-discovering former sporting abilities, those keen to try a new sport, those just wanting to get active again, and those who will enjoy meeting a group of like- minded women."

Coached netball sessions take place on Tuesday evenings at the Centre off Garon Park, Eastern Avenue, Southend and are split into different groups as follows:  High 5 for girls in years five and six, (aged nine to -11 years old,) from 5pm till 6pm; and Under 13's for girls in years seven and eight, from 6pm till 7pm.

These sessions cost £30 for a ten-week course.

Meanwhile, the sessions for adults aged 16 and over, are available on a pay and play basis at just £3 a week.
