A special Active Seniors session takes place shortly to enourage residents aged 50 and upwards to try different fitness activities

Residents aged 50 and over are warmly invited to flex their muscles at a special Active Seniors event on Thursday 12th January

The initiative, from 10am till 12 noon at Shoeburyness Youth Centre, Delaware Road, Shoeburyness, gives people the chance to try out a whole range of fitness activities.

On offer is everything from seated fitness, to belly dancing, circuit training, badminton, table tennis, dance fit, pilates and much more.

The action-packed event, supervised by qualified and experienced tutors, is supported by Southend-on-Sea's Legacy 2012 and Activesouthend, and aims to encourage older people to boost their health and wellbeing by taking part in sport and physical activity.

It costs just £2 per person and there will be plenty of chances for people to find out about future fitness sessions at the Centre.

Southend-on-Sea Borough Council's Executive Councillor for Culture and Tourism, Councillor Derek Jarvis, said: "This is a really terrific opportunity - especially so early in the New Year - for people to have a go at all sorts of fun physical fitness activities for a very affordable fee, and see which they would like to continue with."
