Latest indications suggest Southend Pier will remain closed to the end of March following an incident on Friday 17/02/12 involving a fishing boat. The Visitor Information Centre is open as usual.

New Running Sisters courses are starting - these are running groups for girls and women over 16

Girls and women aged from 16 upwards interested in keeping fit, are invited to join Running Sisters.

 

This is the structured, friendly group - organised by experienced female coaches from East Essex Triathlon Club - which aims to encourage women to take up running.

  • The next Beginners Running Sisters course starts on Wednesday 22nd February at 6:30pm - 7:30pm and is then every Wednesday, finishing on Wednesday 28th March.
  • Another Beginners Running Sisters course starts on Wednesday 18th April at 6:30pm -7:30pm and takes place every Wednesday, finishing on Wednesday 23rd May
  • An Intermediates Running Sisters course starts at 7:30pm - 8:30pm on Wednesday 18th April, and also continues every Wednesday, finishing on Wednesday 23rd May.

This is supported by Southend-on-Sea's Legacy 2012. It all place in Chalkwell Park and costs £16 for any of the six week courses.

Southend-on-Sea Borough Council's Executive Councillor for Culture and Tourism, Councillor Derek Jarvis said: "This is a marvellous way to introduce women to running as a regular way to exercise, in a supportive environment.

"Each week, participants gain confidence and develop their fitness, as well as meeting new friends too."
