Southend parks have won the laurels again, clinching four prestigious Green Flags for the second year running.
This means that Chalkwell, Belfairs Park and Nature Reserve, Southchurch and Priory Parks have all again matched their winning performances from last year.
To be awarded a sought-after Green Flag, each park must pass tough tests.
These include being judged on how the park is managed and maintained, the level of community involvement, conservation and heritage, and environmental sustainability.
Southend-on-Sea Borough Council's Executive Councillor for Culture and Tourism, Councillor Derek Jarvis said: "Our parks are a real credit to Southend, and enhance the outdoor attractions of the borough for residents and visitors.
"For these four parks to maintain their nationally-acclaimed very high standards is a tremendous achievement.
"Congratulations to all who have contributed to their success.
"This is all the more commendable considering the current financial challenges, and the extreme weather conditions we are experiencing this year. "
These four Southend parks are among 1,424 parks and green spaces across the country to receive Green Flag Awards
The Green Flag Award scheme continues to grow internationally and is now expanding into the Netherlands and Germany.
Communities Minister, Andrew Stunell said: "Great parks and green spaces have a huge impact on local communities, providing places to play and relax as well as bringing generations together in a variety of ways.
"They are fundamental to our quality of life, whether in cities, towns or villages, and the Green Flag Award scheme seeks to help raise the standards of them all.
"The many excellent stories coming from the scheme prove what communities and volunteers can achieve by working together with professionals in our green spaces.
"Well done to all those involved in creating these inspirational places for everyone to enjoy."
Paul Todd, Green Flag Award Scheme Manager, said: "We are thrilled to announce yet another record-breaking year for Green Flag Award parks and green spaces.
"A Green Flag Award provides national recognition for the achievements of all those whose hard work and dedication has helped to create these fantastic places for all to enjoy.
"I must also thank all this year's 800+ volunteer judges for their magnificent efforts in assessing an astounding number of applications."
