Apply now for next year’s school places

Published Monday 3rd September 12 in Council - news and information releases news

Now is the time for parents to apply for 2013 school places for their children

Parents of children due to start primary or secondary school in September 2013 are urged to apply for their school places as soon as possible.

The closing dates for applications are Wednesday 31st October for secondary places and Tuesday 15th January 2013 for primary places.

Last year 88 per cent of parents, whose children have just started primary or secondary school, used the facility to apply online.

However, parents not wishing to make an online application can complete paper application forms obtainable from the Council on 01702-215007 or: admissions@southend.gov.uk

Those who apply online will - on the admission offer day - be emailed with details of the school their child has been offered, and will have the opportunity to accept the place online.

Parents using the paper application form will receive a letter sent 1st class on the offer day, notifying them of the school where their child has been offered a place.

Southend-on-Sea Borough Council is expecting to handle more than 4,000 applications - 2,000 for secondary and 2,000 for primary school places.

Parents should also note that applications for all schools, including academies, need to be made through the Council.

Southend-on-Sea Borough Council's Executive Councillor for Children and Learning, Councillor James Courtenay said: "An increasing number of parents are finding it much more convenient to apply online for school places for their children, so we are very keen to let as many people as possible know about this opportunity.

"However, the paper application form is also still very much available to those who would prefer to use this.

"Before making an application, whether online or by using a paper form, we advise parents to read the admissions literature and to visit schools on their open evenings and open days."
