Children battled for honours with their bikes when they took part in the Go-Ride Interschool Competition.
The contest, run for the first time this year, was open to schools which took part in the six-week Go-Ride programme delivered by Southend's special Go-Ride coach Keely Bunton. Pupils involved in their school's own Go-Ride after-school clubs were also eligible to compete.
It gave youngsters in years five and six the chance to represent their schools in a cycling contest.
Three schools took part - Bournes Green Junior, Fairways Primary and West Leigh Junior.
The activities required skill and team work and many of the races were very close. Points were awarded for anyone who took part - from last place to first.
Each school put forward two teams to challenge the other schools, giving every child involved an opportunity to be active and have some fun!
Bournes Green Junior finished top, Fairways Primary School second and West Leigh Junior third. The competition was very close and everyone who took part really benefited from and enjoyed the activities.
Southend-on-Sea Borough Council's Executive Councillor for Planning and Transport, Councillor Mark Flewitt, said: "The competition was a huge success and helped link children from different schools in a big bundle of energy and fun!"
Executive Councillor for Children and Learning, Councillor Roger Hadley, added: "This was a wonderful competition for the schools to be involved in and all the children who took part enjoyed themselves."
The Grand Finale took place at Fairways Primary School was an exciting and intense event for all present.
