The President of the Royal Town Planning Institute, (RTPI) Colin Haylock made an official visit to Southend on Friday 28th September.
Mr Haylock met Southend-on-Sea Borough Council's Chief Executive Rob Tinlin; Group Manager for Development Control and Building Control, Peter Geraghty - who is Senior Vice-President of the Royal Town Planning Institute - and other Council officers.
They discussed Southend's successful regeneration projects - including the award winning public realm improvements.
Southend-on-Sea Borough Council's Executive Councillor for Planning, Councillor Jonathan Garston said: "It was a great honour to welcome such a key national planning figure, as Mr Haylock, whose organisation is at the forefront of planning in Britain.
"He came to Southend as the final destination of his two-day trip to the East of England, and we were delighted to have so many innovative schemes to share with him, such as the Better Southend projects - City Beach, Victoria Gateway, Progress Road, Cuckoo Corner - as well as the Pier Cultural Centre, and the Forum, Southend-on-Sea."
Mr Haylock arrived in Southend hot-foot from the £60 million High House Production Park in Thurrock - home to the Royal Opera House's purpose-built scenery construction facilities - complete with public viewing gallery, and community areas.
