Over 16-year-olds who are physically fit can sign up for a special Lifeguard training course at Shoeburyness Leisure Centre this half term.
The National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) course at the Centre in Delaware Road, Shoeburyness runs from Saturday 28th October until Friday 2nd November, between 8am and 6pm daily.
It costs £250 per candidate for the training which leads to a nationally recognised qualification - required by any Leisure Centre which employs Lifeguards.
Participants must have the skills to work in various situations, on their own and in a group.
The safety of others is essential, and each applicant will be individually assessed on their knowledge of resuscitation, first aid, hazards and risks, accident prevention, water based rescue skills, fitness and team-working abilities.
Southend-on-Sea Borough Council's Executive Councillor for Culture and Tourism, Councillor Derek Jarvis said: "This is a marvellous opportunity for people to learn vital skills leading to future job possibilities.
"The intensive course is very thorough and hugely valuable."
