London 2012 is coming a stage closer in Shoebury Park, with the launch of an adiZone – a giant multi-sport outdoor gym venue.
This permanent play installation, designed and developed by adidas is being officially opened at 10.40am on Friday 27th November. The adiZone will serve local communities across Shoeburyness, as a space where people of all ages can meet socially whilst being encouraged to take part in sport and physical activity.
It will provide facilities inspired by the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, including, basketball, football, climbing, tennis, outdoor gym, as well as an area to encourage gymnastics, dance and aerobics.
Southend-on-Sea Borough Council successfully secured a grant from the adizone Rollout Fund towards this new structure which aims to encourage the local community to participate in sport.
Southend-on-Sea Borough Council’s Executive Councillor for Culture, Derek Jarvis says: “We very much welcome these new facilities which will boost the sporting opportunities already available in Southend.
“The adiZone is free and open all year round, so we hope it will prompt even more residents of all ages to get involved in sports and fitness activities.”
