Privately Rented Homes - Selective Licensing Proposal

Housing Act 2004 - Proposed Designation for Selective Licensing

The Council completed consultation in September 2011 for a proposed Selective Licensing designation for three areas within the Milton, Chalkwell and Kursaal Wards. The powers to do this are contained within Section 80 of the Housing Act (2004).

Please note the Consultation ran from 1st July 2011 to 23rd September 2011 and is now closed.

306 residents and 97 landlord/managing agent questionnaires were returned along with a number of separate letters and emails. Analysis of consultation information is ongoing and a summary of results will be posted on this website in the near future.

The Council is looking closely at the evidence behind the proposal and benefits and risks associated with a designation if it is adopted. Although details have not yet been finalised, it is likely as a result of consultation that any forward proposal would be amended from that consulted on between July - September 2011.

A report detailing the results of findings and providing a recommendation to members is aimed to be presented to members at May/June Cabinet where members will make a decision on implementation.
