Traffic Calming
Traffic calming is a term used to describe any measure designed to slow the speed of vehicles. It can take many different forms including vertical deflections such as road humps, horizontal deflection such as carriageway narrowing or priority working. Simple techniques including road markings and signing can also reduce the speed of traffic and can therefore also be called traffic calming. The selection of the appropriate form of traffic calming is dependent upon the type of road and the level of speed reduction required.
