Travel Centre
Southend Travel Centre
The state-of-the-art building replaces the old bus shelters, which were originally installed as a temporary facility more than 20 years ago. The old station proved functional, but improvements to bring it into the 21st century were desperately needed.
Paid for as part of £4.9 million of Government Local Transport Plan money, the Travel Centre is a major project that complements the Council's vision of 'Creating A Better Southend'. Its completion is the next step in the continued regeneration of the town following in the foundations of the award winning Pier Entrance and Pier Hill.
Benefits of the Travel Centre include:
- Providing a modern facility for bus passengers, suitable for the 21st century
- Being safer than the old system where pedestrians and buses mingled together
- Improving access to travel information for users
- Better traffic flows within Chichester Road
- Promoting regeneration and vibrant, attractive street life in the area
- Enhancing the commercial potential of nearby stores
The Travel Centre is designed to be opened 24 hours a day, seven days a week and is located in Heygate Avenue, Southend-on-Sea, SS1 2AR. To view a map of the Town Centre please go to our related downloads section on the right-hand side of this page and select 'Getting Here'. The new bus stops offer access to buses covering Southend, Essex and links to London and the airports, rail stations. Five of the bus stops are housed within the Travel Centre building, with the rest on Heygate Avenue, Chichester Road, and Clifftown Road.
