Care homes and housing
Care Homes
Care homes provide long term care for older people and people with severe disabilities who are not able to live in their own home. You can also stay at a care home for a short while if recovering from an injury or illness, or for a short break.
Following a needs assessment we can help you to choose somewhere that meets your needs and where you think you will feel at home. You can apply for a needs assessment using our on-line form.
We can also give you information about private care homes but you may need to make your own arrangements and payments.
Please see the 'Useful Websites' section on the right and visit the Southend Care Choices Directory for listings of local care homes. The CQC Directory of Care Homes and Care Services website contains reports and quality ratings for all care homes.
Please use our 'Browse the Borough' map to find the location of care homes within Southend-on-Sea.
Supported or Sheltered Housing
If you cannot stay at home, but do not need or want to go into a care home, you may wish to consider supported or sheltered housing.
Other options to keep you safe at home
You may be able to get special equipment such as grab rails - or have changes made to your home to make it safer and easier for you to get around.
- Careline is a home alarm system which means you can contact help in an emergency 24 hours a day, all year round.
- Telecare is a monitoring system which can trigger an alarm for various things such as a fall, flood, gas leak or fire.
