The Council has 51 Councillors elected to represent you. There are 17 wards each with three elected members.

The current political make-up of the Council is as follows:

The Council is Conservative led as there is a majority representation of Conservative Councillors.
The Leader of the Council is Cllr Nigel Holdcroft who represents the West Leigh Ward of Southend Borough Council and sits within the Conservative Group of Councillors.
The Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group is Cllr Graham Longley, the Leader of the Labour Group is Cllr Ian Gilbert and the Leader of the Independent Group is Cllr Martin Terry.
Councillors are members of the public who are elected to represent the views of the people of Southend. Your Councillors can assist you with any aspect of life that is touched on by the Council.
The Full Council, which is when all 51 Councillors meet together, around nine times a year, decides major policy and sets the amount of Council Tax which you pay to help fund services provided to you by the Council.
