John Barber

John is a community activist of which including current involvement as chair of Southend Homeless Action Network (SHAN), chair of Cluny Residents Association (CRA) and as a Street Pastor.

Up to 2001 he had careers as a teacher and as a software engineer / computer consultant before getting involved in community work. He helped to set up the Trust Links charity that helps people with mental health issues, and its main, garden based, project - Growing Together.

He subsequently became involved in a number of community related projects, including those linked to Southend Community-in-Harmony Partnership (SCHP).

His community involvement, including that with SIWG, arises out of his desire to apply Christian principles, while working with those of all faiths and none, to address issues around social justice, diversity and poverty.
