Out of School Care

Out of School care covers before and after school and during school holidays. The types of care available vary depending on the provider.

Before & After School Clubs

These sessions are typically open during term-time from around 8.00 and often provide breakfast as well as taking the child(ren) to school. These are ideal for parents who need to start work before school hours. Sessions are normally provided by local Day Care Nurseries, Schools or Childminders.

After school clubs are typically collect the child from the school and return them to their setting until you are ready to collect them. Some settings may provide a snack or tea depending on the time of collection and your arrangements. These are also provided by Day Care Nurseries or childminders but some dedicated Afterschool Clubs are in operation.

Schools often provide extended services and extra curricular activities for their pupils so you may also wish to contact your school to see which afterschool activities they can provide.

Some playschemes are Ofsted registered but those for children over 8 years old are not required to register. If you are hoping to claim help towards the cost of childcare you may wish to consider this prior to using a provider as in many cases only registered childcare qualifies.

Other Holiday Clubs and events are intended as fun activities for children but can help bridge gaps in childcare arrangements. Please discuss details with the provider as parents may be expected to stay with children for some events. Please also make yourself aware of the Safeguarding policies.

Registered Childminders

Registered childminders often provide flexible childcare arrangements and are ideal for parents that work long or irregular hours. Many childminders can provide school drop-offs and collections and are normally open during the school holidays for older siblings over 8 years old.
