Sure Start Children's Centres

A warm welcome awaits you in Southend-on-Sea's Sure Start Children's Centres. They are relaxed, friendly places to visit offering parents, carers and children the opportunity to meet other families from their community. A core range of services is offered in each centre to help give every child in every family the best possible start in life.

New and Expectant Parents

Children's Centres provide a number of support services for new and expectant parents and work closely with NHS midwives and health visitors. These services can range from Bumps groups for expectant parents to meet up for a social chat, Ante-natal classes, Breastfeeding support groups, Baby Weighing and Health Clinics, Delta Post-natal Groups, Baby Massage and more. 


Parent Support

Support services for parents range from Healthy Eating and Weaning Advice, Positive Parenting Courses, Job clubs, Adult Learning opportunities and ESOL courses [English for Speakers of Other Languages] and support from other local services such as benefits advice and the police.


Activities and Events

Most Children's Centres put on a number of activities for under 5 year olds during the school week where they are welcome to attend with mum, dad, grandma, grandad or other carer. Activities for older children may also take place after school, at the weekends or during the school holidays.
