Duplicate certificates
You can apply for duplicate certificates for:
- births (not all birth records are held at our Register Office - please check carefully the records we hold by clicking our birth certificate requests pages)
- marriages
- civil partnerships
- deaths
But only if the birth, marriage etc. occurred in the Southend city.
How to apply for a duplicate certificate
To apply and pay online for a duplicate certificate, please use our online form and have your debit/credit card available to make the payment.
For Duplicate certificates not held at Southend Registration District please apply through GOV.UK.
Fees and charges
Note : Southend Registration Service reserves the right to retain 50% of the certificate fee if you have supplied the incorrect information and applied to the wrong District or if you decide to cancel your order,

Certificate can be collected for free from Registration Service, Ground Floor, Civic Centre, Victoria Avenue, Southend on Sea. Alternatively please select the postage option that you would prefer:

Register Office opening hours
The Main Register Office is open:
- Monday to Friday - 8:45am to 5:15pm
- Saturday - 8:45am to 5:15pm by appointment only (not open for any general enquiries)
Weddings can take place in Approved Premises outside of the Register Office Monday to Sunday - 8am to 9pm
Please note: We usually register births in the mornings, deaths in the afternoon. Notices of Marriage and Civil Partnership are also taken throughout the day; all are by appointment but we try to help customers if we have the resources to do so.

The information you give will only be used to process this request. Your personal data will be held securely and will not be passed to any other organisation. This form will be held for no longer than two years in order to complete our processing requirements and five years for Notice of Marriage documents in line with the General Register Office requirements.
