This is in addition to:
- 166 tonnes of rubbish collected daily
- 52 tonnes of pink recycling sacks, paper and card collected daily
- 175 miles of streets swept, and litter picked by Veolia each day
How you can help
- put your recycling and waste at the edge of your property by 7am on your correct collection day
- never put your recycling or waste out early or on non-collection days
- if you have large items to get rid of think about giving them to a charity or to the re-use shop at the Stock Road Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC), or they can be collected using the bulky waste collection service or taken to one of the HWRCs
- look at how you can reduce the waste you create
- look at what can be recycled and make sure it is in the correct box, bin or sack, ready for collection
- use the food waste service – it will be turned into green energy
- if you use the garden waste service put garden leaves into your bin
- don’t litter. Please use litter bins or take your rubbish home, litter is bad for the environment and can harm animals
How you can get involved
- sign up to be a street champion and help tidy your local area
- join Make Southend Sparkle litter picking days
- join a local environmental group
- report untidy streets on MySouthend
