Council performance

We regularly publish how we are performing across a range of areas and services in our monthly performance report.

We also have identified performance that cover the main areas of interest to residents and these are set out below. These measures show performance for the 2017/18 year.

How many people are attending council run or affiliated arts and sports events or facilities in Southend?

From April to the end of March 2018, 6,303,463 people attended council run or affiliated arts and sports activities, facilities or events. This also includes centres, theatres, museums and libraries.

How quickly are your planning applications decided?

From April to the end of March 2018, 94.65% of ‘other’ planning applications were determined within 8 weeks - and achieved our target of 90%.
‘Other’ planning applications cover householder applications and are those most relevant to local residents. Fast processing is important to ensure applicants can progress developments or make alternative arrangements quickly and efficiently.

How many volunteers?

From April to the end of March 2018, with your help, the number of volunteer’s hours with cultural services exceeded its target by 7741 hours, with the target set of 19,000 hours and achieving 26,741 hours highlighting the city's support of cultural offers in Southend.

How clean are your streets?

From April to March 2018, 97% of streets inspected met the acceptable standard of cleanliness with regards to litter.

Are we getting your enquiries right, first time?

From April to March 2018, 87.58% of customers were happy with how we handled their enquiries (by phone, face to face and the website) - exceeding our target of 80% - resulting in a better service for you and satisfied customers for us.

Many enquiries can be dealt with online, including making payments, finding a service and making an application.
