Forthcoming Elections – Thursday 6 May 2021
The Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner elections and Local Government elections are taking place on Thursday 6 May 2021. Polling stations will be open from 7am to 10pm.
Becoming a candidate
Please visit Colchester Council website for information on becoming a candidate for the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner elections.
Please visit The Electoral Commission website for information on becoming a local government candidate.
An online briefing (via Microsoft Teams) for local election candidates and agents will take place on Monday 15 and Tuesday 16 March at 5pm. Please email us for joining instructions.
Nomination papers for local election candidates will be available here very soon.
Please note nominations will close at 4pm on 8 April 2020.
The relevant deadlines for elections taking place on Thursday 6 May 2021 are as follows:
- The deadline to register to vote is midnight on Monday 19 April
- The deadline to apply to vote by post or amend an existing postal or proxy vote is 5pm on Tuesday 20 April
- The deadline for applying to vote by proxy is 5pm on 27 April

Poll cards will be going out from 19 – 29 March. If you do not receive a poll card it could be that you are not registered or you cannot vote in the local election due to your nationality.
Please contact the electoral office to check if you are registered or not.
In most cases, as long as you are registered, you do not need your poll card to enable you to vote.
