Bins and Recycling

We're collecting as normal

At this time services including bin collections and street cleaning are operating with no significant disruption.  Please continue to put your bins out, on your usual collection day.

Our waste contractor, Veolia, has a useful Frequently Asked Questions about waste and recycling on their website: Coronavirus Frequent Asked Questions

There is also a Frequently Asked Questions for garden waste recycling. You can find this here: Garden Waste FAQs

How to dispose of your bins and personal waste if you're unwell with symptoms of COVID-19

Please store your personal waste (eg; used tissues and disposable cleaning cloths) securely within disposable bags.

When appropriate, these bags should be removed and placed into another bag and securely tied or sealed. Please keep this waste separate from other bin bags. This waste must be stored for at least 72 hours before being put in your usual domestic or household waste bin.

Other household waste can be disposed of as normal and put out for collection on your usual day.

It is more important than ever to ensure that recycling is clean and dry, and that rubbish bags are all securely tied to help prevent spills and protect our collection teams and the public.

Household Waste Recycling Centres (the Tip)

Both our Stock Road and Two Tree Island HWRCs are open with strict social distancing measures in place to ensure visitors and staff are kept safe. For futher information please visit our HWRC pages.

Charity shops

We are experiencing a higher amount of items than usual being left outside charity shops in the borough at the moment.

Please store any items you are looking to give to charity responsibly at home, until the charity shops reopen. Please do not leave them in front of charity shops as they are now closed until further notice.

Any items left in front of charity shops will be classed as fly-tipping. Southend-on-Sea Borough Council are working closely with charity shops and anyone found to be fly-tipping will be prosecuted.
