Elections - Thursday 7 May 2020

The Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner elections and Local Government elections will take place on Thursday 7 May 2020. Polling stations will be open from 7am to 10pm.

Becoming a candidate

For information on becoming a Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner candidate visit Colchester.gov.

For information on becoming a Local Government candidate visit the Electorial Commission website.

Please note Nominations will close at 4pm on 8 April 2020.

A briefing session for prospective candidates and agents will be held in the Council Chamber at the Civic Centre on Monday 23 March 2020 starting at 6pm.

Poll Cards

Poll cards will be going out between 27 March – 7 April. If you do not receive a poll card it could be that you are not registered or you are not entitled to be registered due to your nationality.

Please contact the electoral office to check you are registered.

You do not need your poll card to enable you to vote as long as you are registered.

Forms and correspondence

Please send all forms and correspondence by email or post to Electoral Services, Southend-on-Sea Borough Council, Civic Centre, Victoria Avenue, Southend-on-Sea, SS2 6FA.

Registering to vote

In order to register to vote, please go to the Gov.uk website.

Alternatively, you can telephone your application through to Southend-on-Sea Electoral Services on 01702 215010, or request that an application form is sent out.

The deadline for registering to vote for the forthcoming election is Tuesday 21 April 2020.

Voting by Post or Proxy

If you do not wish to attend a polling station on polling day in order to cast your vote, you can apply to vote by post or proxy.

The deadline for a new postal vote or to amend or cancel an existing postal vote is 5pm on Wednesday 22 April 2020. This is also the deadline for making changes to or cancelling an existing proxy vote.
